My name is Elizabeth but I go by the nickname Betsy. I am from Milwaukee, WI.
At the age of 23 I decided to pack up my two dogs, two cats and my friend and I headed west.
When we stopped in Las Vegas, NV and won some money! A couple months later we both got jobs as change girls. The stories are true!
It was 1978, Vegas was a small town still run by the mob and I loved it. After a couple of years as a change girl I became a Blackjack dealer. I did that for 8 years but I really didn’t like that there was no challenge in it but the money was good. I really wanted to go back to working in an office but the cut in pay held me back. So then I was a bartender for a couple of years.
Fast forward to 1998, I am married, have a son and find myself running a one person office using QuickBooks for my accounting software. I have found that I really have an affinity for accounting. At that time a lot of people were starting their own businesses and needed help with their books. I saw a need and started an accounting business.
Then it was H&R Block classes to learn all I could about taxes as it was more complicated then when I did my own & my friends tax returns in the ‘70s! I worked for them for a couple of years and then offered tax preparation through my own business, Office Works.
That was when I found my niche, taxes. I still do bookkeeping but I am trying to concentrate more on taxes.
I like to garden, go hiking or rock hunting with my dogs, Sky & Molly. I also like to read and I watch waaay too much TV!
